Process Engineering student wins ‘Oman’s Falling Walls Lab Competition’ in Muscat

The second-year student, Basma Hamed Salim Al-Kiyumi, who studies Process Engineering (PE) at the International Maritime College of Oman (IMCO) won the “Oman’s Falling Walls Lab Competition” which took place yesterday on the 22nd of May 2017 in Muscat organized by The Research Council (TRC). The idea of the Falling Walls Lab Oman competition is to present an idea of a research project, entrepreneurial or social initiative that is relevant to the world of today in just 3 minutes on the competition’s stage. More than 200 applications were received by TRC. The competition will be held for selecting one candidate who will represent the Sultanate in the Falling Walls Conference that will take place in Berlin on November 9, 2017. The conference involves various scientists and researchers from around the world and aims to build and strengthen the links between academics, distinguished innovators and entrepreneurs from all areas. Staff and students from the Process Engineering department of IMCO submitted five different ideas in total. All five ideas have been ranked in the top 20 of the Oman’s Falling Walls Lab Competition and were invited for a presentation to select the best idea of Oman during yesterday’s competition. Due to the achievement of the PE student Basma, IMCO’s flag will be Oman’s representative in the 2017 competition in Berlin, Germany.
